Handing a board to a model
This page says what a prompt commissions, what it forbids, and what never leaves your browser.
A board travels computed and never as a date. A model handed a date and a place casts the chart from memory and gets it wrong. A wrong chart read well is the worst thing this project can produce, because no later check can catch it: it looks exactly like a right one, and reads exactly as well.
One board, never two of one instant
A consultation takes one instrument, chosen before the press and at no point after it. The boards overlap: a chart of dunjia and a 六壬 liùrén board share the day pillar, the decade, the void branches and five of the eight spirits; the twelve palaces of 七政四餘 qīzhèng sìyú are the ring a 六壬 general is seated on; the four pillars are the substrate the others are built from. No transmitted rule combines the three 式 shì. 太乙 tàiyǐ overlaps none of them and the rule holds for it anyway, because a model handed a board of a year beside a board of a person reads the year onto the person.

Three kinds, and the kind decides what you are asked for
卜 bǔ (奇門 qímén and 六壬 liùrén) takes a question, and the board is cast at the instant of the press: the question comes before the casting, or it is a caption on a board that was already there. 命 mìng (八字 bāzì, 七政四餘 qīzhèng sìyú, 紫微斗數 zǐwēi dǒushù) takes a birth and asks nothing of you. 天 tiān, which is 太乙 tàiyǐ alone, takes a year and a matter: no question, no person, no place and no hour.

The question never reaches the server
A prompt endpoint is told that a question exists and never what it is: the prompt ends on the line that introduces one, and your browser appends the text before the whole thing goes to your clipboard. A matter travels the same way. This project talks to no model, holds no key, and sends nothing anywhere.

A prompt is built in one place only
The consultation is where a board is handed over, and it is the only surface that builds a prompt: a prompt is an asking, and it belongs where the asking is. The sections addressed by an art show boards and their transcripts, and asking there means going to the consultation. The consultation prints from the page and never from a route of its own, for the same reason: a route would have to be told the question.

What a 卜 bǔ prompt commissions
A chart withholds the 用神 yòngshén and says so: which palace bears on the question is the reader’s choice, and the prompt requires it declared. A 六壬 liùrén board hands its three transmissions over already drawn, by procedure, and the prompt says not to re-derive them — while which of the four courses to read from is still the reader’s.

What a 命 mìng prompt commissions
The subject is the person the board was laid on and not the board. The reply is laid out in six movements: the disclaimer, the birth situated in the model’s own words, the board read whole from a centre, the themes of a life in short sections titled for a theme and never for a factor, the per-board inspection list those sections draw on, and an ending that opens. Every choice travels signed — which seat or god carries a theme is said as it is made, a school’s method arrives named as that school’s, and the element that compensates stays uncomputed and is chosen aloud.

What a 天 tiān prompt commissions
A reading is for a matter, and a matter is not a question: it names what is being looked at — a field of view with two sides in it, which is what the two counts are counts of. Without one, the prompt reads the figure and says the assignment was never made, rather than sending a model to invent a pair of parties. The register is descriptive and never predictive, and every surface printing this board says that its nine palaces are numbered one seat off the 洛書 luòshū.

What stays out of a prompt
How sure each number is stays in the documentation an agent can look up. Pasted into a prompt, it became a paragraph the model recited unasked, beside a disclaimer that already says what this is and what it is not. The exception is a bound on a quantity the prompt is already telling a model how to read: a caution that arrives with the instruction it governs is part of the instruction. The test is whether removing the line would leave an instruction a model could follow confidently and wrongly.

The prompt carries the disclaimer this site’s footer carries, as an instruction to say it: this is a space for inner enquiry and personal enrichment, it is no substitute for professional advice on anything, and the power over a person’s choices and their path stays theirs. A prompt travels, and a disclaimer left behind on the page it was copied from was written for somebody who is no longer there.
